We can confirm that our Chairman, Mick Glossop, will step down from his role at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Mick joined the Supporters' Club as chairman just before our first campaign in the National League all the way back in August 2015 after being a Committee Member before that. After seven seasons of true committment to the role which has seen many changes including The Lions playing at their highest ever level Glossop can leave the Supporters' Club with his head held high.
During his time with the committee Mick has been a driving force behind ensuring everything was voted on by all members and has seen the introduction of the popular and successful 50/50 Matchday Cash Draw scheme. Also during Mick's time the scoreboard was installed at the Railway End of the ground after fans raised £15,000!
We have also held several events such as concerts, Race Nights, Pub Games Nights and Meet the Manager evenings which have all helped to raise money for the supporters benefit including the purchase of equipment for the Wednesday Gang to keep Nethermoor in tip top condition.
Mick also led a campaign to raise money for Give A Duck to purchase 100 ducks for children going through cancer treatment, part of this campaign saw Mick travel up and down the country with a duck to help raise money for the charity.
Everyone on the committee would like to thank Mick for his dedicated service over those seven years and we hope to have an enjoyable last couple of months with him on board.
On his departure Mick said: "I would like to announce that this season will be my last as Chairman of the SC, after nearly seven years I feel personally it's time for a change, someone with fresh ideas and a willingness to be fully involved as much as possible is needed."
"I am extremely proud of the years I was the Chairman, through the National League period and trying to steady the ship during a pandemic so we came out of the other side intact. I believe this has been achieved, at times it was not easy but I hope I did the SC proud during my time as Chairman."
"There has been some very good times during those years, doing things I thought I would never do like taking part in live radio shows on the eve of the play-off finals, and being interviewed for magazine articles."
"I would like to thank every member of the committee who have been on board in those seven years, I strived to lead a democratic process where everything was voted on and decisions were made as a collective, an ideal I truly believe in, their support and contribution was invaluable. I would also like to thank you the supporters for letting me lead our Supporters' Club for so long, it has been an honour."
"If anyone would like to stand for Chair or serve on the committee please do get in touch, I am more than happy to chat with you."
"My position as a Trustee and IQA for the Community Foundation will remain unchanged as long as the Foundation need me."
Thank you Mick once again for your loyal service.
